La La Land would be appeal to large group of audience with different demographic; however, the most notably the people who like musicals much. Within moments of the film starting, the opening scene takes place on a busy highway in Los Angeles which people came out of their cars, singing and dancing a routine number named “Another Day of Sun”. The upbeat and happy instantly sets the scene of the musical and it draws in the viewers as the characters singing are all wearing brightly coluored clothes, dancing and singing to the same beat and time, on a busy highway on a sunny day in Los Angeles, which attracts the viewers as it evokes a feeling of joy and happiness. Added to this, the title “La La Land” flashes the screen in typical Broadway text, taking up the whole screen in a yellow colour, reflecting hos this movie is essentially surrounding the arts.
Move on, the long shots are mainly used within this scene to show how many people were joining in on this musical number, as well as to present how big the Los Angeles highway is. Close up shots and medium shots were used towards the beginning to focus one on person as well, but this use was very brief.
